The more effectually to secure subordination among
slaves, by requiring the owner, or overseer to re-
side with them.
SEcTION I. Be it enacted by the Senate and Hlouse
of Representative of the State of Alabama in Gene-
ral Assenbly convened, That from and after the lst
day of March, 1.856, not more than six hands sball
be suffered to reside on any plantation in the State
of Alabama unless the owner, or overseer, or white
agent, remains on the same place with them, or
within the distance of one mile.
SEC. 2. Be it /hrthf euackd, That any permun
violating tho first section (i this act, tor three
months consecutively, shall be liable to indictment
Penalty.  and upon conviction shall be fined ine hundred dol-
lars, one-half of which shall go to the informer,
and the other into the county treasury.

To authorize Justices of the Peace to hav. . tain
attachments excuited.
SECTION 1. He it eflcted byt the Scuaft (IN Homj

alrocess of at- passage of this act, Justices of the Peace are here-
tachment. by empowered, to have executed, any and all pro-
cess of attachmnent which they are Vow authorized
by law to issue, by the constable of the beat in
which said process may issue, Provided, the amount
chall not exceed the amount of the constableS
bond.

vice of the said process, shall be made by the aibr-
