AN ACT                               1841.
Regulating Punishmonts under the Penitentiary Syatem.
Section 1. Be it ehacted by the Senate and IIoyse of ? epresen-
tatives of the State of .labayma, in General..ssembly convened,
That forthe government and management of the Peuitentiery ofEnacting
this State, and to adapt our criminal proceedings and punishnitts clane.,
to such system, the provisions contained in the following flicon
chapters, be, and the same arc hereby adopted and made of force,
as a part of the laws oftlhis State, to have effect and force as there-
in prescribed.
CHAPTER FIRST.
OF THE ORGANIZATION OF THE PENIT'ENTARY.,
Officers of the Penitentiary-their appointment, 4*.
Section 1. The organizatica of the penitentiary; shall include Oficera.
three inspectors, one warden, one deputy warden, one physician,
one clerk, and such number of overseers or, turnkeys, as the in-
spectors may from time to time, deem necessary.,
Section 2. The warden itud inspectors shallbe elected by joint
vote of the two Houses of the General Assembly, and shall hold Elected.
their offices for the space of two years, and until their successors
are elected and (ihalified.
Section .3. The clerk andphysician shall be appointed by the Appointl.
