Duty of cen-  Sec. 2. And be it futher enacted, That it shall be the duty
us taker.  of the person elected as aforesaid, to make personal application to
the heads of families: and to persons not belonging to tiny family
within the counties for which they shall have been elected res-
pectivelv, for a true estimate of the inhabitants thereof, such esti-
mates from the heads of white families, to contain an enumeration
of the whole number ofinhabitants belonging to his or her family,
making a correct distinction hetween the number of white males
under 21 years of age, and white males over 21, and between
white females under twenty one years of age, and white females
over 21'; the total of free people of colour, (Indians not taxed
excepted,) and the total of slaves: and shall make out thro
copies of said enumeration, with the classification aforesaid, ac-
cording to the form herein after prescribed, one of which shall
be posted up in the office of the clerk of his county court, and
two forwarded to the secretary of state, on or before the third
Monday of November, in said year.
