Arnold H. Olsen served as Attorney General during the two-year period covered by
this volume. Serving the full period were Charles V. Huppe, now First Assistant and
Louis E. Poppler as assistant, James R. Paul, Robert L. Word, Jr. and Joseph McCaffery
as Special Assistants. Hugh D. Carmichael served as First Assistant until his resignation
to become Assistant Federal District Attorney. Willis B. Jones resigned to enter private
practice in Billings, Montana. Phillip O'Donnell served as Special Assistant until his
untimely death. William Coldiron, Glen E. Cox and Thomas F. Joyce were appointed
to fill these positions. Charles W. Leaphart, Jr. resigned in December 1949 to enter
private practice, succeeded by Harold Holt who resigned to enter federal service, David
Holland who resigned to enter private practice, and Vera J. Hensrud who became law
clerk. Misses Shirley Dowling and Beth Hubber served as stenographers the full term
and Miss Evelyn Anderson was special stenographer for law enforcement.
