Honorable Parnell Shepherd
Alderman
Amity, Arkansas
Dear Mr. Shepherd:
Reference is made to your recent letter requesting the
opinion of this office on the following:
Does a City Marshnl hired by the City
Council have the authority to hire
deputies without the Council's approval,
and does the Council have to approve his
deputies?
Ark. State. (1947) S19-1104 provides in pertinent part:
. . .he shall have power to appoint one
or more deputies, for whose official acts
he shall be responsible. . . .
Based on the above, it is my opinion that a Marshal of an in-
corporated town has the power to hire deputies and said de-
puties do not require the approval of the City Council.
Very truly yours,
FRAN K HOLT
Attorney General
