TIlE ADVOCATE OF PEACE
Published in the middle of every month by the American
Peace Society.
SOCIETY'S OFFICE, 40 Winter Street, Boston, Mass. .
TERMs, $1.50 a year in advance; to ministers, 75 cents.
Postage in the city FREE. Elsewhere in the United States
twiece cents a year, but may be less than five cents where a
number are tiken, payable in advance at the office received.
To AuvERTISERS.- The Advocate of Peace which has hitherto
declined advertisciment8, is now issued in a form to admit a
limited number, and circulating in most of our States, will be
found a desirable medium. In this number our own advertise-
ments fill nearly our spare space ; but we shall hereafter leave
room fr others.
SPECIAL NOTICES.
To every one who procures three new subscribers with pay,
the Advocate will be sent for such service, and gratis to every
minister who preaches on the subject once or more every year,
and stcures a contribution for the Society, one half to be re-
turned, if desired, in its publications. 0  Will not every one
flow receiving the Advoccte forward at least one new subscri-
her or donor?
We wish at once to employ canvassers for the Advocate; and
pll pastors, and such persons as they may recommend, are au-
horised to procure subscribers. To persons desirous to do
gnod by circulating it, we will furnish it on terms that cannot
toil to be satisfactory.
AG ENTS WANTED
To obtain subscribers for the Advocate, and also to circulate
pur other publications in every part of the country, on terms
extremely liberal. The Advocate is designed for our whole
pountry, and we wish to give it circulation in every city, town
pod village.

GENTLEMEN, - We think it only fair to presume, that you are
dl friendly to our sole object of doing away the custom of War he-
ween nations by the introduction of such peaceful substitutes as
hall more effectually secure all its legitimate ends. It is in the
irosecution of this great work we publish the ADVOCATE OF
EACE, with no expectation or desire of making any money by
r, but for the purpose of diffusing as widely as possible among
the people the information it contains, in the full belief that

to the cause of Peace: (2 ) By commending the general subject
to their consideration iii such ways as you may choose : (3.)
By publishing inure or less in your columns on the subject,
either from your own pea, from correpondents, from your ex-
changes, or such matter as you may find In our columns, either
with or without credit, as you mlay prefer : (4.) By sending
occasionally at least a copy of your paper, especially any num-
her contaiuing any notice of the Adrocate, of our Society or our
cause : (5.) By inserting this notice, or its substance, that
other persons reading yours, but not ours, may see it.
GRATPiTOVs CIRCULATIoN. -The Advocate is sent gratuitously
to the Libraries or RealingRooms of all our Colle ws and Theo-
logical Seminaries, to Young Men's Christian Associations, and
to every donor of not less than $2.00, who does not choose to
take it as a subscriber, as'also to prominent individuals, both
ministers and laymen. If not wanted, please return it.
PEACE ENVELoPEs - At 50c. per 100 to he had at the Society's
office, or sent-post-paid at same price. 7- A beautiful device
to keep Peace Ideas before the people, such as these : -
 Glory to God in the highest, and on ea-th Peace, good-will
toward men. Song of the Angels. - Blessed are the Peace-
makers. Jesus Christ. - Follow Peace with all men. God hith
made of one blood all nations of men. Paul. - Nations shall
not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn
war any more. Isaiah. - All wars are dollies. There never
was a good War, or had Peace. Franklin. - All they that
take the sword shall perish with the sword. Christ. - Peace,
assured and permanent, is the great want of the world ; and
war a chief foe to its progress, prosperity and salvation.-
Nations best prepared for war oftenest engage in war.-Such
are some of the ideas on -these envelopes, besides stating the
