Being organized primarily for this purpose, its re- lations with the legal profession have been largely confined to bringing to their attention the best law books. During all of these years, however, there has also been with us the desire to talk with our many thousands of business friends of other things-things dissociated from the buying of books and re- mitting for the same. We believe that the nature of our business and, our relations with the judges, as authors, and the lawyers, as their reading public, have brought to us the opportunity to do this in a way which will interest you. Hence this magazine. Judicial Notice of Football Season L HE SUPREME COURT in one of the states has decided that it will take judicial notice that the football season in American institutions of learn- ing begins in the fall and ends on Thanksgiving Day. Inasmuch as the an- nual Army-Navy game was played this year two days after the season ju- dicially closed, it leaves a horrid doubt as to the real standing of West Point and Annapolis as institutions of learning, which would seem to warrant an application for a rehearing on that point. However that may be, it is encouraging to see the court throwing aside the musty volumes of precedents and ketting down to modern sources of information, like the newspapers and the sons of its members in attendance at the university. Perhaps next year some progressive court 'will judicially settle who are entitled to places on the All-American Eleven. It would be a boon to a suffering public if they would. The practice of having sporting questions decided judicially has really much to be said for it. How convenient it would have been last summer, if, instead of the unseemly wrangling over the Olympic Sports which filled our ears, it had been possible to refer the question whether Hayes or Dorando won the Marathon race direct to The Hague Court of Arbitration. In fact, why hold contests at all? Why not let the competitors present their claims to the (3)
