MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN
The past six months have been busy ones for the
Council and Section committees. Activity highlights
are as follows:
I. Accreditation. There now are 163 ABA-approved
law schools offering the J.D. degree program, 13 of
which are provisionally approved; 5 applications for
provisional approval are pending. Reinspections were
conducted of 8 fully approved schools, 2 provisionally
approved schools, and 1 unapproved school seeking ABA
approval. In addition, a hearing was held to determine
whether one school's ABA approval should be removed.
II. Bar Admissions. On December 11, 1976 a con-
ference was held on bar admissions of foreign law school
graduates, co-sponsored by the National Conference of
Bar Examiners. It was attended by 85 bar examiners
and legal educators. An edited transcript will be
available in March.
III. Two-Year Law School Study. Responding to
a proposal by the ABA's President, a committee was
appointed to study the feasibility of conducting an
experimental law school course consisting of two years'
formal legal education followed by one year of con-
tinuing legal education.
IV. Learning and the Law. Two issues were pub-
lished; the Summer issue was devoted to clinical legal
education; the Fall issue dealt with a variety of topics.
