FEB1A9 197!n January, 1971 Law Student Division Officials Meet With HEW Secretary Richardson Health, Education and Welfare Secretary Elliot L. Richardson met in December in Washington, D.C. with representatives of student professional organizations in the first of a series of youth meetings designed to promote greater understanding and better work- ing relationships between young people and HEW. Major concerns discussed during the meeting by the youth representatives centered on provisions of the Health Manpower Act, the National Health Service Corps Bill and the Higher Educa- tion Act which affect the future direc- tions of their professions. They also emphasized the need for more channels of communication with HEW officials. Secretary Richardson urged increased involvement by the professional associ- ations in the Department's special effort to increase youth and student member- ship on HEW Public Advisory Commit- tees. He also suggested that the associ- ation leaders work with the Depart- ment's Office of Youth and Student Affairs to increase student participation in the various HEW Intern programs.
