Institute's Fourth Summer Conference

Set For July 27-29 in Ann Arbor, Michigan


   Plans for the Legal Writing Insti-
tute's fourth summer conference are
well under way. Conference brochures
are printed and in the mall. Housing,
food, and room arrangements are in
place. The program committee has
begun to outline the topics for the
conference's program.
   The conference will take place on
July 27, 28, and 29, 1990, on the
campus of the University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor. Local arrangements are
being handled by Diana Pratt, at the
Wayne State University Law School.

   Two speakers have thus far agreed
to address the group: Professor Roy
Mersky and Judge Edward Re. The
program committee is trying to design
the other sessions so that the program
will accommodate the various interests
of those attending, whether they are
new to legal writing, have several years'
teaching experience, or are primarily
administrators.
   A partial list of the planned ses-
sions includes the following topics:
designing writing assignments; evalu-


ating writing assignments; conducting
student conferences; diagnosing stu-
dent writing problems; designing legal
writing programs; recruiting and
training leal writing instructors;
designing drafting courses; designing
advanced writing courses; teaching
research; responding to various
learning styles; assisting students
with remedial writing problems; using
computers in writing instruction; and
handling the politics of legal writing.


     Call for Proposals.
     The Legal Writing Institute is
;' soliciting program proposals for
i its fourth summer conference.
iProposals should be in the form of
  an abstract of not more than one
page. The most useful proposals
will be for a short presentation (15
  to 20 minutes) or for a panel
  discussion by three or four people
  (75 minutes). Send your proposal
