I am privileged to have the
opportunity to introduce the first issue of
Resolved, the e-journal of the Charleston
School of Law's Dispute Resolution
Center. The publication of Resolved,
after nearly two years of planning by
students, faculty, and staff, marks a time
of transition for the law school's
alternative dispute resolution program.
Under the auspices of the Dispute
Resolution Center, the Charleston
School of Law has seen its ADR
offerings grow to include state court
mediator certification training, a robust
externship program creating and
managing peer-to-peer dispute resolution
programs in the Charleston County
School District, and its first team
competing in the ABA's student
arbitration competition.

dispute system design programs,
Resolved is poised to grow into an
accessible and informative resource for
ADR professionals. Each issue is slated
to tackle a distinct ADR problem,

concepts, mediation. Viewing the
experience from the standpoint of the
court that referred the matter to
mediation, the mediator, the lawyer
representing a client, and the client
herself, this issue of Resolved provides
insights and perspective that will make a
reader's encounter with mediation more
meaningful and productive, whether as a
first time participant or a grizzled
veteran.
At the same time that we
acknowledge with pride the
accomplishment of creating this e-
