Ayearly task is to replace one of the six-member Executive Committee. This year Susan Okin comes to an end of her term. On behalf of the board I should like to thank her for her clear counsel during her tenure-and to warn her that I will continue to seek it. After discussion the board agreed to ask Iris Marion Young of the University of Pittsburgh to assume a six-year term. I am pleased to say that she has accepted. Most Political Theory readers will know Iris Young by her Justice and the Politics of Difference (1990). I might also call attention not only to her collection of essays Throwing Like a Girl (1990) but also to her edited book The Thinking Muse: Feminism and Modern French Philosophy (1988). Among her many articles, I might note Gender as Sexuality: Thinking about Women as a Social Collective, in Signs (1994). A second replacement comes in the ranks of the editorial assistants. Each year two graduate students at UCSD assist me and Alan Houston in the job of preparing Political Theory. They hold two-year staggered terms. I should like to thank Hans von Rautenfeld, who comes to the end of two very productive years. He can now turn to thesis-writing on a topic linking political theory and psychology. Verity Smith, whom I also thank, continues on. I should like to welcome Mark Golub, who comes to UCSD from Macalester College and the Claremont Graduate School. The meeting held to the theme of replacements. Political Theory was founded twenty-five years ago to provide a venue for English-language articles in political philosophy broadly conceived. During that time the original editorial board has by and large not been added to. Sadly, inevitably, many of those who were members of the first editorial board have died. After discussion, the Executive Committee decided to ask several people to join. I have thus far received acceptances from John Dunn (Cambridge University), Jean Elshtain (University of Chicago), and Harvey Mansfield (Harvard University). I welcome them to the board.
