VICE-PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES TO KEYNOTE   BOARD ELECTS

  FIFTH ANNUAL NATIONAL STUDENT SYMPOSIUM         THREE NEW MEMBERS


  The Vice President of the United States
will keynote the Fifth Annual National
Student Symposium on the Presidency fol-
lowing  a reception and  dinner in his
honor and that of Mrs. Gerald R. Ford on
Friday evening, March 29th, commencing
at 6:00 PM at the new Sheraton Inn and
International Conference Center in Res-
ton. Virginia.


The Vice President of the United States, Hon.
Gerald R. Ford, keynote speaker for the Fifth
Annual National Student Symnosium.


  The  reception for the Vice President
will be precded  by a White House  Re-
ception cumumencing at 3:00 PM that lay,
tendered by David arid Julie Eisenhower
for the Symposium  student participants.
David, the grandson of Center Honorary
Co-Chairman,   lamie Doud  Eisenhower,
and Julie, daughter of President and Mrs.
Nixon,  had  expressed regret that they
could not participate in last year's Student
Symposium  at French Lick, Indiana. At
that time David was on active duty in the
United States Navy. David has followed
the Center's progress with considerable
interest and wrote on October 17, 1973:
  ... this series of meetings and the Cen-
  ter's fine program will continue to be
  the outstanding forum which they have
  come  to be for the discussion and study
  of the Presidency.
  I Diid and Julie were reminded of this
  ,ar's Symposium by a note on  Dr. R.
Gordon   Hoxie's Christmas card to the
President and Mrs. Nixon. The latter had
written Dr. Hoxie to convey my interest
in this unique assembly and called it to
her daughter's attention.
  The   invitation to the Vice President
had  been extended  by the Student Co-
Chairmen   for the 1974 Symposium  and
was  personally presented by Center Trus-
tee, James C. Hagerty, Vice President for
Corporate Relations, American Broadcast-

  At its Fall Quarterly Meeting, the Board
of Trustees of the Center for the Study of
the  Presidency elected the Honorable
James A. Farley honorary co-chairian of
the Center and Vincent dePaul Draddv a
member   of the Board. Dr.  Luther H.
Evans was elected a Board member at the
winter meeting.
  Mr. Farley succeeds W. Clement Stone
as honorary co-chairman and serves with
Nirs. Nlami Drd  Fkinhrrwcr.


James A. Farley, honorary co-chairman, Center
for the Study of the Presidency, at the recent
dinner at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in observ-
ance of the 500th birthday of Copernicus, with
Dr. R. Gordon Hoxie, President of the Center.
  Universally recognized as the senior
statesman of the Democratic Party, Mr.
Farley has been actively associated as an
officer in Democratic Party organizations
for more than half a century, beginning
as Chairman  of  the Rockland  County
(New   York) Democratic  Committee  in
1919. He has been Vice President of the
National Democratic Club  of New York
since 1930, and he served as Chairman of
the Democratic National Committee from
1932 until 19-10 and was Chairman of the
New   York Democratic  State Committee
from  1930 until 1914. He  directed the
presidential campaigns of Franklin Delano
Roosevelt in both 1932 and 1936, and his
resignation as Chairman of the Democratic
National Committee had been inspired by
his opposition to the third term for Pres-
ident Roosevelt.
   From the inception of the first F. D.
 Roosevelt Cabinet, he served as the Post-
