I wrote an editorial for the March 2009 in which I summarized the journal's editorial policy and offered some details on the rejection rate. Here again I remind potential authors of the journal's editorial policy and present the latest journal statistics. Editorial Policies For work to get published in Police Quarterly, it must satisfy the following requirements: 1. Scholarship must be original and should invoke the scientific method. Except in rare circumstances, descriptive research, argumentative essays, and papers that do not formulate and explicitly test one or more empirical research questions will not be sent out for review. 2. The Editor will not seek external reviews of papers that have a low chance of acceptance. If the Editor is not entirely sure the paper has a low chance of being accepted, the editorial board will be consulted. If this occurs and the board agrees the chances of acceptance are slim, a maximum of one review will be provided. 3. Papers must have clear policy relevance. A significant portion of Police Quarterly's readership consists of law enforcement executives, so the research must be of interest to practitioners working in the field. The Editor will not seek review of papers that fail to meet this requirement. journal Statistics Between January 1, 2008 (when I took over as editor) and December 31, 2009, the journal has received 103 submissions. Of those, 26 have been accepted, 65 have been rejected, and the rest were either in the review or revision stage at year end 2009. Two additional 2009 submissions were also withdrawn. Dividing rejections by the total number of decisions (91) yielded a rejection rate of just above 71% at year end 2009. This was up slightly from year end 2008. The rejection rate, of course, varies depending on how it is calculated. For example, considering only 2009 submissions, the rejection rate was approximately 80% (10 acceptances and 39 rejections out of 61 submissions). Looking strictly at decisions made in 2009, as opposed to submissions, the rejection rate was just above 72% (58 decisions, including 16 acceptances and 42 rejections).
