                         EDITOR'S NOTE

The articles hereafter consist of general reports from the international conference
On Judicial Management from Comparative Perspective. This conference held on
November 8-10, 2017 at Tianjin University, was organized by the China Law Society (CLS)
and International Association of Procedural Law Congress (IAPL). The general reporters
are prominent scholars who have been selected worldwide by the IAPL Presidium to
organize national reporters who shall conduct research in his/her own state under the
guiduance of the general reporter's questionnaire on the specific subject. The coordinated
comparative studies will be based on their respective nation's research but can overcome
the general style of 'talking past each other'. Moreover, the general reports summarize
and give comment on the various systems, phenomena, or situations from a comparative
perspectivethat the audience can read their own orientation, doctrines, and theories.
The conference included five Sessions. Except for opening ceremony, each session
was comprised of a general report from a Chinese hostand a foreign reporter. This
collection includes the following: one introductory report by Professor Antonio do Passo
Cabral (University of Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil), two reports from Session 2 on case
management by Professor Wang Fuhua (Shanghai University of Finance & Economics,
China) and Professor John Sorabji (University College London's Judicial Institute,
England), two reports from Session 3 on court management by Professor Fu Yulin (Peking
University, China) and Professor Emmanuel Jeuland (University Paris 1 Panthdon-
Sorbonne, France), one report from Session 4 on the structure of the court system by Prof.
Peter Chan (City University of Hong Kong, China) while another report by Prof. Alvaro
Pirez Ragone (North Catholic University/Antofagasta, Chile) is still in revision. The
reports from Session 5 on fact-finding by Professor Zhang Baosheng (China University
of Political Science and Law, China) and Professor Dr. Alan Uzelac (Zagreb University,
Croatia) will be published in other ways because they were relatively isolated from
judicial management.
It is regrettable that, in consideration of the 'article' style of this journal, we have
had to exclude the excellent addresses on Opening Ceremony by Vice Chairman of CLS
Chen Jiping and Chairman of IAPL Professor Loic Cadiet, closing addresses by Chairman
of China Civil Procedure Law Society Professor Zhang Weiping (Tianjing University,
China), and introductory reports by Professor Li Hao (Nanjing Normal University,
China), Professor Hanki Sohn (Yonsei University, Korea), Professor Margaret Woo
(Northeastern University, USA), and Professor Remco van Rhee (Maastricht University,
Holland). Fortunately, they have been mostly been collected in the IAPL Journal.
The contribution of the IAPL conference and the reports collection is briefly
presented herein. Professor Loic Cadiet's dosing words for the conference are:
