NVSQ is drawing on a wider spectrum of scholars, new people are being brought into the fold, the research enterprise is growing, and the quality of scholarship is improving. Differences in past years about orientation and perspective are less important today. As the number of research and training centers grows, there is a growing consen- sus about what one ought to read and understand to be a competent scholar in the field. This journal has steadily improved in quality because of the Herculean efforts of previous editors who made the journal a personal project. That investment of soul and energy was necessary in earlier stages of develop- ment of the field with its scarce resources and far-flung networks. Now the effort is to be more widely shared. As NVSQ is a voluntary association, it will use its editorial staff and its members to recruit high-quality work and to be a central vehicle of communication for ARNOVA as the association continues to grow. One way to achieve these goals is to canvas the world of scholarship and look for research that will be of interest to our members, even though authors have seemed unaware of our existence or our relevance. As members, we can actively canvas our respective networks and professional society meetings for interesting papers, and apprise our editorial board members of relevant research. This is not an activity that the editors can effectively accomplish without help. This has to be a collective effort. Further, those who organize seminar sessions at the various research centers can best encourage presenters to reserve (or further develop) the papers that they have presented for publication in NVSQ. Most centers bring in top scholars as speakers. Centers have the attention of these speakers when they are invited to talk. Lobby them to have the work they present published in NVSQ! Solicitation of articles from these speakers helps members to define the field from their own perspectives. Also, people who organize special topics conferences may work with NVSQ to gain a publishing outlet for papers. Authors often prefer having their conference papers appear in the journal since it is widely disseminated and indexed in research libraries.
