Editorial. 4 FTER a period of inactivity we are again prevailed upon to take up the editorial pen for the purpose of introducing another volume of the CHRONICLE to the members and friends of the Manchester Law Students' Society. As we glance over the proof of this the first publication of the fifth volume, we are reminded that some explanation is necessary respecting the various alterations apparent to a regular reader of this paper. In the first place, we have thought fit to change the colour and design of the cover, in an endeavour to- make the CHRONICLE more attractive in appear- ance. Further, we have decided to increase the number of pages of reading matter, in the hope of receiving renewed and greater support from the members.of the Society. We confess to feeling a certain amount of diffidence when deciding on such a course, but, on the other hand, the justification is found in our steady increasing membership. May we again impress upon the members that this periodical is essentially a students' magazine, -written for students by students, and we do not profess or aspire to any great literary genius. Moreover, we wish it to be distinctly understood by all students that it is to their own interests this magazine should be supported by frequent articles from their pens. We know the proverbial shyness of the student in writing articles for the Press-we ourselves have experienced it often- but as we do not require every article sent in to be accompanied by the name and address of the writer, no excuse can be pleaded on that score. With this number we present two photographs of the Mock Trial groups, which we hope will be of interest. We regret, however, that the groups do not include all those who took part in the entertainment, which was, on all sides, acknow- ledged to have been the most successful up to the present time. As a preliminary announcement, we hope next month to present to our readers a portrait of a well-known member of the Society, with a short account of his life. This month we print the Committee's report for the past session, in which we note with pleasure the fact that the average attendance at the debates has increased. There is, however, still considerable room for improvement in this respect, for with a membership of 300 we surely ought to be able to muster a larger attendance than the average of 27. Committee's IReport for reesion 10045. GENTLEMEN,-Your Committee have pleasure in presenting to you their 97th Annual Report, being for the Session 1904-5. The Session has been a successful one. At the termination of the last Session the membership of the Society was 288. This number at the commencement of the Session with which this report deals had been reduced by death and resignation to 267. During the Session there has been an increase of one Life, four Honorary, and 28 Ordinary members, making the present strength of the Society exactly 300.
