handle is hein.journals/marylf2 and id is 1 raw text is: THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND LAW FORUM VOLUME II FALL, 1971 NUMBER I Editorial: A little more than a year ago, the founding editors of the FORUM were laying plans for what they hoped would be an entirely new and unique legal journal. It was felt that there existed in the student and professional populations, a need for a contemporary legal publication which could highlight relevant socio-legal controversies in a scholarly -yet readable--way. Although the FORUM is now but one year old, with only four issues behind us, the response generated by it has been remarkable. Volume One contained feature articles by such distinguished indi- viduals as retired Supreme Court Justice, Tom C. Clark, United States Senator Charles McC. Mathias, Jr., famed anthropologist Lionel Tiger, and Washington, D. C.'s Stern Community Law Firm Director, Mon- roe H. Freedman. In addition to the articles contained in this, the first issue -of Volume Two, our second year promises to insure our continued growth. The remaining issues of this volume will contain contributions from such well-recognized individuals as the Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, J. Edgar Hoover, and United States Senator J. Glenn Beall, among many others. When the first issue of the FORUM was published in September, 1970, circulation was understandably limited primarily to the local academic community. At the present time, however, each issue of the FORUM is sent to our ever-increasing number of subscribers which include a majority of the leading law schools and bar libraries throughout the United States and Canada, as well as a significant number of private law firms and other individual subscribers. While the FORUM continues to attract persons of public notoriety as contributing authors, student contributions are actively encouraged. In this way, it is hoped, as was stated in an earlier Editorial, that the FORUM can be an effective voice for change and education within a profession which all too often trains its own to pry and probe, but rarely question.
