~OT1~'. OF THE M~NTh

On going-to press we leai.with greatpleasure
that, the honour of knighthood has been conferred
on our President, Mr. W. Alan GIllett, T.D., D.L.
' The large numbek of menbers of the profession
who have personally seen evidence of the care and
devotion which the President has,,for many years,
brought to. bear upon, the Society's affairs will
realise that the honour is more than fully deserved.
We afe confident thAt it will be warmly welcomed
in a still wider sphere: '
We- also record with great satisfaction the
knighthood conferred upon Mrs, Anthony F. L
Pickford, the Town Clerk of the City of London
end a member of the Council of The Law Society.
.Colonel F. W. Chamberlain, C.B.s., J.P., has
been Dominated- as High Sheriff of Kent, and is
due to take office, as such, next April: Admitted
in 1913, he is a member of the firm of Chamberlain
and Co., of 1 Stone Buildings, Lincoln's Inn,
W.C.2.
While heartily congratulating Col. Chamberlain
on this honour, we are indeed sorry to learn from

a Press topoFt that, w1inrapplying to the'Boird of
Trade for a clothing coupon allowance to obtaii
tile .necessary robes, he could not persuade tiem
Oa do more yhan send' ift coupons siAffcidet to
enable him toy buy four ajuts.
Through 'a kindly thought in a solicitor's will,
Mr. Bert Manmix,' pavement artist ig Oklacester
Road, Kensington, is better off by £29, Mr .C.
Dehn, who died last October, was the testator;
and his legacy was: prompted by his ,. lytalks
with the artist, whom he was wont to dibe 'as
a great character ,and whose wowk hy-was
accustomed to admire on his tvay to his i6ffice.

* The, publiseis, of .he iLaw List try to assist
readers by printing in italicm'any prizes gained by
solicitors shown in it, and by printing in Romxan
type the names of solicitors' firms ; both ,are,
however, shown in brackets' after the hdiriidual
name. This no doubt accounts for the surprise
of the Legal Adviser'to the British Broadcasting
Corporation, who fecently received a :letter
addressed to him as Messrs. John Mackrell
and Prize, Solicitors, Broadcasting House, Portland
Place, W.1.
