ADDRESS BAR ASSOCIATION
The Honorable A.A.F.Seawell, Attorney Generel of North Carolina, will be
the orincioal speaker at the first meeting of the Duke Bar Association to be
held in the court room of the Law School on Thursday, October 10th at 7:30 P.
h_. Another feature of the meeting is a talk by Mr. John Matthews, of the first
year class on The Liquor Situation in North Carolina. After the meeting
the Law School Auxiliary will serve refreshments in the lounge.
&ccording to Mr. Horace Bomar, Jr., President# present glans cell for five
or six regular meetings during the year. The second meeting will in all pro-
bability be held in November.
At a recent meeting a plan was endorsed under which each member will gay
a fee of $2,50 to supoort the social functions sponsored by the Association
during the year. Tentative plans have been made for a picnic, two dances and
a banctuet. These will be under the direction of the Section of Law School Af-
fairs.
On Friday, September 27th, the senior class held its annual smoker in
honor of the first year law students. All law school students and faculty and
staff members were invited. Mr. Leon L4 Rice, President of the class, oresided,
and Mr. Robert R. Gamble spoke for the entering students. According to custom
faculty members were presented to the entering students, and according to
custom they were allowed to speak for themselves but only to the extent of
about ten or twelve words each.

Dean Horack attended the annual meeting of the American Bar Association
held in Los Angeles during the week of July 15-20th and took the North Carolina
Bar Association cruise on the U.S.Reliance from august 16-22nd. Because he was
a. fellow classmate at the Harvard Law School, he was ouite appropriately celled
unon to introduce Thomas Reed Powell, of the Harvard Law School faculty, who
was the orincipal speaker of the convention held during the cruise. On July
5th Dean Horack gave the principal address at the annual meeting of the Alabama
State Bar Association held at Montgomery. The subject of his address was The
Lnvyer and Individualism.
Mr. Billig continued his work in Washington as Director of Legal Research
of the National Recovery Administration and gave a series of lectures on the
Administration of Insolvent Estates in the Business School at Columbia Univer-
sity.
Mr. Bradway attended the American Bar Association meeting as a member of
the Level Aid Committee, was a delegate to the National Conference of Social
