OCTOBER, 1933 ° DUKE BAR ASSOCIATION The first regular meeting of the Duke Bar Association for the current year will be held the latter part of October, the exact date and speaker to be announced later. Preliminary to the public meeting, it is planned to have a series of short informal talks to the student body on bar association work and the work of the Duke Bar Association in particular. Oppor- tunity will be given to the Section Chairmen, who received notice of their appointment some months ago, to outline to new members the work of the different sections which are patterned after the section of the American Bar Association. With this work outlined, each student will be asked to request membership in the section in which he feels he will be most interested. WORK OF THE LEGAL AID CLINIC The Legal Aid Clinic was operated during the summer months under the direction of E. C. Bryson of the Clinic staff. It is of interest to note that during the summer of 1932, from June 1st to October 1st, the Clinic handled fifty cases and that during a similar period in 1933 fifty-five cases were referred. Seventeen students have registered to take the course dur- ing the school year 1933-34. This year three special studies are planned for the class. One group of students will give special attention to Office Organization; a second group will consider the Evaluation of Student Work in the Clinic Class; while a third group of students will handle the Public Re- lations field of the Clinic work from the student viewpoint. FIRST YEAR LAW CLASS HONORED The ladies of the Law School Auxiliary and the Faculty of the Law School gave a reception Friday evening, October 6th, to the Law School students, and members of the staff, honoring the first year class. This occasion provided opportunity for new and old students to become acquainted early in the school year and provided means of informal contact with faculty members which the class room does not ordinarily provide.
