REGARDING THIS BULLETIN
In keeping with the expansion taking place in the Law School
the bulletin will hereafter appear under the above heading in-
stead of as the Law Library Bulletin as heretofore and will,
from time to time, carry news items representing all of the acti-
vities of the Law School as well as the lists of Current Legal
Publications and Accessions* and such other information as has
formed a part of the Law Library Bulletin. It is hoped that the
Law School Bulletin will be of service to the several groups -
faculty, staff, students, alumni and friehds - who together are
engaged in carrying forward and expanding this institution's tra-
ditions by bringing to it the very best in facilities and personnel
in order that it may rank with the best undertakings in the field
of legal education.
LEGAL AID LIIC TO OPEN Il OCTOBER
The Legal Aid Clinic will begin active work on October 20th.
Like legal aid clinics in the other leading law schools through- -
out the United States, this organization seeks a two fold goal.
On the one hand it renders legal service to poor persons whether
that service consists of advice or involves litigation. On the
other hand it provides a machinery by which a law student under
close supervision is inducted into the mystery of actual law prac-
tice. The only cases accepted are those where no fee is availa-
ble so there is no possibility of over-lapping with the work of
the Bar.
The Duke legal Aid Clinic will begin handling cases in the Yi-
cinity of Durham but will enlarge its scope as.circumstances ren-
der desirable. The office hours of the Clinic will be every after-
noon from Monday to Friday, from 1:30 to 3:30. It will be clos-
ed on holidays but will remain open during the vacation periods.
It will accept criminal cases as well as civil oases, except that
it will not take personal injury cases or divorce matters unless
the desirability of a divorce case is recommended by a social
agency. If its work can be brought up to the standard of work
done in other similar organizations, it will prove a most valuable
piece of legal machinery, giving many people access to the law
and in planting in the minds of the students a sense of idealism.
The Clinic is being organized.and will be conducted by Prof-
essor John S. Bradway, former Director of the Legal Aid Clinic,
University of Southern California.
