Fuchs-Chairman Philadelphia, Pennsylvania William J. Fuchs is a partner in the firm of Obermayer, Rebmann, Maxwell and Hippel. He received his B.A.-Phi Beta Kappa- from Williams College in 1942 and his LL.B. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1948. Mr. Fuchs has been active in the American Bar Association having been the Philadelphia Chairman of the Junior Bar Conference of the ABA and presently a member of the ABA Standing Committee on Economics of Law Practice. He formerly was a member of the Public Relations and Professional Education Committee of the Philadelphia Bar and presently is a member of that bar's Civil Rights and Economics of Law Practice Committees. Formerly he was an instructor in Negotiable Instruments on the faculty of the American Institute of Banking. Richard H. Allen-Chairman-Elect Memphis, Tennessee Mr. Allen is a partner in the law firm of Armstrong, McCadden, Allen, Braden & Goodman. He received his undergraduate degree in 1946 from the University of Florida and his LL.B. degree from the same university in 1949. Mr. Allen was Editor-in-Chief of the University of Florida Law Review while attending law school. He is past First Vice-President of the Memphis and Shelby County Bar Association. In 1955, Mr. Allen was President of the local Junior Bar Association. He also served in 1963 as Chairman of the Unified Bar Committee. Mr. Allen served as Vice Chairman of the Section during 1967-68. 34 PAGES THE EDITOR'S VIEWPOINT Since 1962, the year in which the Section of General Practice was created, our Section has passed several milestones. On July 1, 1964, our Section joined forces with the Young Lawyers Section to publish, on a quarterly basis, a new publication-Law Notes. October 1964 saw the distribution of our first issue. That issue, and the subsequent issues, have attempted to print articles of practical and immediate assist- ance to our readers. Since the first issue of Law Notes was distributed over 4 years ago this month, we have published over 140 articles; We have covered some 16 general areas of the law, with each area of law covered by at least 3 articles. Law Notes currently is distributed to over 50,000 members of our Section and the Young Lawyers Section. In December 1964 our Section membership was approxi- mately 2,100. Our membership now stands in excess of 8,000. We have hopes of passing the 10,000 level before 1970. While membership statistics standing alone are not important, the tremendous growth experienced by our Section during its first six years does suggest that our Section is providing meaningful services to our membership. During the Summer of 1966, our Section initiated a new publication-Docket Call-to bring important case notes and digested legal items to the attention of our members. Under the able direction of Harry Wright, III, Columbus, Ohio, Docket Call has become an important new service provided by our Section. As a result of the Section's Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, important programs are planned for 1968-69, such as: 1. Continued discussions of Group Legal Services programs in the interests of advocating the position of general prac- titioners. 2. Careful attention to the pending concepts of Certification of Specialists. 3. Study of the value of increased use of lay personnel in law offices, working under the supervision of lawyers. 4. Sponsorship of a 2 1/2 day conference in Chicago on January 22-24, 1968, to discuss problems of interest to general practitioners. The leaders of our Section are committed to advances during the next six years that equal or surpass the developments and achievements of our past years.
