handle is hein.journals/lignws2 and id is 1 raw text is: )o~ 1~ New Orleans, Louisiana January 27-28, 1977 An antitrust case, with parties, facts, pre-trial pro- ceedings, judge, jury, able trial counsel and all the extras will be presented at a National Institute to be co-spon- sored by the Section of Litigation and the Antitrust Law Section at the Fairmont Hotel in New Orleans on January 27 and 28, 1977. The program promises to provide a lawyer interested in antitrust law with the unique op- portunity to observe a trial of an entire antitrust pro- ceeding and benefit from the performances and com- mentary of leading antitrust lawyers across the country. Facts. The assumed set of facts will involve a dealer- termination case. Professors James Meeks and Dorsey Ellis, Jr. of the University of Iowa Law School are pre- paring a full set of materials. Each attendee will receive a booklet containing the complaint, answer, abbreviated interrogatories and their answers, Rule 34 motions and answers, deposition testimony, correspondence and internal memoranda, requests to admit, experts' reports and pre-trial memoranda of the parties. Participants. Deputy Attorney General and former U.S. District Judge, the Honorable Harold R. Tyler, Jr. will preside. Counsel for the plaintiff will be Maxwell Blecher, Los Angeles, and William Farmer, San Fran- cisco. Defendant's counsel are Merrell Clark, New York City, and J. 0. von Kalinowski, Los Angeles. Panelists. In addition to the trial participants, a dis- tinguished group of panelists will comment on the trial action as it occurs. In addition, the panelists will be pre- pared to discuss particular subjects relating to the trial of an antitrust case that may not be illustrated in the course of the Institute's proceedings. Such topics may include the use of expert witnesses, the use of computers in trial preparation, the use of paraprofessionals in trial preparation, pre-trial motion practice, handling docu- ments at the trial, negotiating settlements, staff morale in a big case and preparation for the unexpected com- plications introduced by multiple parties. The panelists will be: Hon. Sam Pointer, U.S.D.J., Ala.; Hon. Alvin Rubin, U.S.D.J., La.; Irwin Alterman, Detroit; William Barnett, Houston; Fred Bartlit, Chicago; Taylor Briggs, New York; Macdonald Flinn, New York; John French, Minneapolis; J. V. Patrick, Birmingham; Jerrold Salz- man, Chicago; John Tomlinson, Seattle. Panelists will be divided into four panels and each panel will be moderated by the past chairman or present chairman of the co-sponsoring Litigation and Antitrust Law Sec- tions-Messrs. Robert Hanley, Paul Connolly, Edwin Rockefeller and Ira Millstein. Plan to Attend. We urge Section members to reserve the dates of January 27 and 28, 1977 and plan to attend this Institute.
