The Division was established to facilitate interaction inclug educational exchanges, dscussion on common practice issues, and policy feed- back-between practitioners and re cional (or cistriet) offices of the EEOC, the Office of Federal Contract Coiiance Programs (OFCCP), and the Department of Justice. Currently, there are ongoing Re- gional Liaison Division groups and activities in numerous cities through- out the country. Local haison groups strive to have a broad range of view- points, with input by representatives from major corporations, umons, and law firms representing both plaintiffs and defendants in equal employment matters. In ad tion to the mediation train- ing proFram (see page 6), the egonal Liaison Division has helped the EEO Co ttee carry out its partnership with the EEOC by creating a pilot tra g program throng which Sec- ti(n member frm plitifff, public, management, and union sectors share thei- expertise with EEOC staff at the local level, Begun in the spring of 1998, pilot cities for this training pro- gram are Los Angeles, lanta, il- wau;ee, and Phiadelphia. Designed to harness pro bono resources to en- hance the capab'd'ties of EEOC field staffs, lc groups have desi ed the frollonig educational sessions: Atlanta-A program, Internet for Lawyers,was held in July and one on mediation and conciliation in August. *Los Angeles--A session on sexual harassment was held in August. The group has planned an October 21 prouram devoted to investigation techniques and a Deeeer 2 pro- gram on class investigations. * 'b~adelphia-A progra on Septemer 15 dealt with case han- dg and on September 23with ex a ' g what constitutes a 'sab'ty. * 'aukee--A session in June covered the relationsiip between Title VII and other laws (eg. ,ankruptcy law, NLP R, DOT), aJuy session compared state and federal agency procedures and included a seussion of commOn law clainls, and an August session provided an upate on sub- stantive case law, The Regiona 'aison Division is also responsible for provid'ng Section and local bar 'erOners educational opportunities at the regonal level. For instance, the Division set up the EEO Basics courses that took place in ten cities between March 1996 and October 1997 and was broadcast to satelhlte locations in November 1997. Additional programs are being planned for early 1999.
