Program cochairmen Harry J. Keaton of Los Angeles and Robert Pleasure of Washington, DC, urge Section members to finalize their reservations and arrangements for the Annual Meeting immediately. Section headquarters and pro- grams will be located at the Hyatt Regency Hotel. At this year's meeting a variety of subjects of current interest in labor relations will be discussed. Topics include: 1980 ERISA Amendments, Crisis Bargaining in the Eighties, New Trends in NLRB Law, New Developments in Affirmative Action -Including Age Discrimination and Sexual Har- rassment, Labor Law Impact on Business Transac- tions-Including Antitrust Developments Affecting Labor Law and Labor Law Considerations in Sale and Acquisitions of Business, and Public Sector Labor Law-Including Budget Cuts and the Bargain- ing Process, Strike Litigation and Remedies. Highlights of the program include the Annual Review of Supreme Court Decisions in Labor Rela- tions to be presented by Section Secretary Professor Jan P. Vetter of the University of California at Berkeley, and a luncheon presentation by the Honorable Stanley Mosk, Justice of the California Supreme Court. A new feature of the program will allow for management and labor comments on the views of a number of our honored guests. These include NLRB Chairman John Van de Water, Department of Labor Deputy Under Secretary Robert Collyer, Professor Vetter and Justice Mosk. Many of the Section's Com- mittees will meet at various times throughout the pro- gram; there will be a cocktail reception on Monday evening, August 9; and the Section's Annual election of officers will be held on Wednesday, August 11. CHAIRMAN'S COMMENT The Annual Meeting in San Francisco is fast ap- proaching and this will be the last newsletter prior to the Annual Meeting. Harry Keaton and Bob Pleasure have assisted in obtaining a fine program that I know will be of interest to all of you. On pages 3-6 of this issue is a complete schedule of the program. You will notice that we are jointly sponsoring a session on the 1980 ERISA Amendments with the Labor Law Committee of the Young Lawyers Division on Mon- day, August 9 and a Wednesday Charles G. Bakaly, Jr. afternoon program on Public Sector Labor Law with the Section of Urban, State and Local Government. We are pleased to have as the luncheon speaker at the Wednesday Annual Luncheon an outstanding jurist, Justice Stanley Mosk of the California Supreme Court. Justice Mosk authored the majority opinion of that Court in Bakke v. Regents of the University of California. He will speak on Affirmative Action and Discrimination. Copyright © 1982 American Bar Association Inasmuch as this is the last newsletter of my term as Chairman of the Section, I would like to take this op- portunity to thank all of the Council Members and Of- ficers of the Section, Committee chairpersons, and the members of the Section for their cooperation and as- sistance during this past year. This has been an out- standing year for the Section. Our membership is at an all time high and our goals for maintaining a sound financial position, developing procedures for protect- ing our jurisdiction on issues involving labor and employment law, strengthening the Committee struc- ture, and cooperating with other Sections and Com- mittees in the presentation of programs in the labor and employment law area have been met. We are still attempting to secure passage by the House of Delegates of suggested changes in the law of breach of duty of fair representation, and we still hope to publish and distribute The Developing Labor Law, Second Edition before the end of the year.
