The special issue was edited by Dr Ebenezer Durojaye and Ms Gladys Mirugi-Mukundi of the Community Law Centre, University of the Western Cape, and focuses on the application of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights by South African courts. The theme was inspired, informed and sought to acknowledge the consistent engagement of the Community Law Centre with the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights. The articles in the special issue were based on papers presented at the Colloquium on Application of the African Charter on Human and People Rights by South African Courts, convened by the Community Law Centre.
