Over the last four decades, Chi- na has achieved several unprecedented miracles in human history: the largest economic and social transformation, the largest industrialization and urbanization, the longest duration of rapid economic growth, selfless assistance to other developing countries, active participation in the construction of lo- cal infrastructure and a contribution of an average of 30% of the world economic growth per year. All these great accomplishments depend on continuous reform and opening-up. Ultimately, joining the WTO was one of the most important milestones in the course of China's reform and opening-up. The WTO is the organizational and legal foundation of the multilateral trading system; the rules and operating mechanisms of the WTO create a transparent and predictable business environment for the global economy and provide a safeguard for the healthy and orderly development of world trade and the world economy. The WTO is also an important platform for its members to integrate into eco- nomic globalization and participate in global economic and trade governance. The WTO continues to promote the exploration and formulation of new rules in international economic and trade fields. Since China's accession to the WTO in 2001, China's opening-up has entered a new phase, de- veloping from predominantly local, bilateral and domestic policy to whole, multilateral and interna- tional rule. With the aid of the platform of the WTO, China has participated in economic globaliza- tion and accelerated its integration into the world economy. China' s domestic economic vitality has been released in an unprecedented fashion, and the socialist economic system with Chinese character- istics has continuously improved. Great changes have taken place in various fields, such as trade, economy, society, humanities, etc. With the improvement of China' s overall national strength, Chi- na' s contribution to the world economy continues to increase, and China has become an important country in global economic governance. 2018 is the first year for the Chinese people to fully implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China depicted a beautiful blueprint for the development of our country over the next 30 years. It established a major overall diplomatic policy of adhering to the path of peaceful development and promoting the construction of a community destined to better all of humanity. To realize this beautiful blueprint and to construct such an extraordinary community, continuing to give full play to the role of the multilateral platform of the WTO and strengthening the extensive communica- tion between China and various countries and international organizations is required. Issued jointly by the China Society for WTO Studies and the University of International Business and Economics, Journal of WTO and China aims to set up a platform for China' s international exchanges and to show the world China's research on theory and policy concerning the WTO and opening-up. We hope that the experts, scholars and front-line researchers who are engaged in work related to the WTO will use the Journal of WITO and China platform as a means to send out China' s voice.
