SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES.

                 MONDAY,  OCTOBER  11, 1897.



  The court met pursuant to law.
  Present: The Chief Justice, Mr. Justice Field, Ar. Justice Harlan,
Mr. Justice Gray, Mr. Justice Brewer, Mr. Justice Brown, 'Mr. Justice
Shiras, Mr. Justice White and ir. Justice Peckham.
  W. F. Fitzgerald, of San Francisco, Cal.; W. H. Anderson, of San
Francisco, Cal.; James E. Boyd, of Greensboro, N. C.; John G. Thomp-
son, of Danville, Ill.; John D. Johnson, of St. Louis, Mo.; Edward F.
Brown, of New York City; William H. Blymyer, of New York City;
J. C. Byers, of Mena, Ark.; Benj. Morris Strouse, of Lebanon, Pa.;
George H. Peirce, of Camden, N. J.; Henry A. Earle, of Washington,
D. C.; Thomas  11. Clark, of Montgomery, Ala.; L. W. Campbell, of
Waco, Tex. ; E. G. C. Bleakly, of Camden, N. J., and William I.
Grubb, of Birmingham, Ala., were admitted to practice.
  The Attorney-General presented to the court the Hon. John K. Rich-
ards as Solicitor-General, and it was ordered that his commission be
recorded.
  The Chief Justice announced that the court would commence the call
of the docket to-morrow, pursuant to the 26th rule.
  Adjourned until to-morrow at 12 o'clock.
  The day call for Tuesday, October 12, will be as follows
  Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 (and 5 and 6), 7, 8, 9, 10, 13 and 14.
