    to their initial enrollment at Boise State.

    A New York state judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a for-
    mer University ofNorth Carolina football player, who sued the
    school and the NC4A for gross negligence after they ruled that
    he was permanently ineligible because ofacademic misconduct.

9   Committee   on  Infractions'Surprises'The Ohio
    State University  with Penalties; Severity  of
    Sanctions  Was   Unexpected
    Ohio State University officials knew they were going to be
    punished for the well-publicized violations within its football
    program, which came to light a year ago.

10  Division II Panel Finds  Major Violations  at Cal
    Poly Pomona
    In a case resolved through the summary disposition process,
    the NC4A Division II Committee on Infractions found that


    California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly
    Pomona) committed major violations in its women' and men'
    basketball program.

11  Appeals  Committee Provides Little Relief to
    Arizona  State
    The NCAA Division I Infractions Appeals Committee has
    affirmed an earlier ruling, which found that Arizona State
    University (ASU) committed a series ofviolations over a five-
    year span.

12  Analysis  and Takeaways   from  Ruling  Against
    Tennessee
    On August 24, 2011, the Division I Committee on Infractions
    released its Report concerning major and secondary violations
    related to the University of Tennessee's men' basketball and
    footballprograms. A briefsummary of the Report and some
    take-awaysfrom the case are set forth below. The entire Re-
