Editor's Corner: Plus ga change, plus

c'est la mtme chose1

This issue marks the beginning of the journal ofLegal Studies Education's (JLSE)
thirtieth year. As I think about the JLSE and its role in our discipline, I am
reminded of the old saying by French novelist Alphonse Karr: the more
things change, the more they stay the same.
The world, society, and the environment of business have dramatically
changed since the first issue of thejLSEwas published in 1983. Likewise, the
JLSE has evolved and changed over time, taking on characteristics of each
editor and editorial board. Some issues have included special sections such
as Pointers, a segment devoted to practical teaching techniques. Other
issues have included book reviews and selected essays. In recent years, under
the leadership of then editor in chief, John Norwood, a Perspectives on
Teaching section was added, which continues today. The JLSE now has
two issues per volume, rather than one. The editorial board has grown and
currently has a sixty-five member staff.
Even though the world, society, and the exact layout, dimensions, fre-
quency of publication and other attributes of the JLSE have changed since
1983, the JLSE's mission has not. The primary mission of the JLSE is to serve
as the premier outlet and forum for peer-reviewed academic scholarship re-
lating to pedagogical issues relevant to legal and ethical education within the
business curriculum.2 The JLSE has remained and continues to be faithful
to its primary mission. Things change but, as Karr's saying reminds us, some
things stay the same. At least with respect to the JLSE it is good that some
things remain the same.
This issue includes three exceptional articles, two award winning papers
and an essay. The first two articles provide detailed treatments of timely topics
