INTRODUCTION
In the spirit of continuous improvement, the Executive Committee of
the Academy of Legal Studies in Business (ALSB) requested the
Membership Director to undertake two related satisfaction surveys of
the present and past Academy membership. The first survey (Present
Member Survey) focused upon current ALSB members in order to assess
the quality of programs and services it offers. The focus survey was
designed to evaluate current programs and services rather than to
conduct market research to identify additional programs and services
that might appeal to non-members. Therefore, it made sense to
communicate with the current membership at that time.
Second, the Academy leadership was also concerned with the reasons
why past members failed to renew their membership. As with the
Present Member Survey, the Membership Director led the survey ofpast
members (Past Member Survey) to determine if lack of satisfaction with
the Academy was the reason for failing to renew membership. The
results of these two surveys are reported and discussed below.

  * Membership Director, Academy of Legal Studies in Business and Professor of Legal
Studies, University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyoming.
Professor of Management, University of Wyoming, Laramie, Wyoming.
Executive Secretary, Academy of Legal Studies in Business and Associate Professor
of Business Legal Studies, Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
