Baker, III and Natasha Brison Our deepest appreciation goes out to Barbara Osborne, JD, and Anita M. Moorman, JD, for serving as guest editors for this special issue of the Journal ofLegal Aspects ofSport (JLAS). Osborne (professor in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science at the University of North Carolina) and Moorman (professor in the Department of Health & Sport Sciences at the University of Louisville) spent countless hours soliciting, reviewing, and editing submissions for this special issue on legal issues in college athletics. There are currently myriad legal issues within intercollegiate athletics and this special issue reflects a broad range of timely topics. With the 50th anniversary of Title IX in 2022 in mind, David A. McArdle and Sylvia de Mars tackle a subject that is often overlooked in their article, Your Body Is a Battleground: Law, Regulation, and Pregnancy Discrimination in United States College Sports. Next, John Grady examines recent litigation that could have major financial ramifications for univer- sities relative to trademark in Testing the Bounds of Universities' Merchandising Rights in Light of Penn State v. Vintage Brand. As name, image, and likeness (NIL) dominates much of the legal news within the sporting world, Anita M. Moorman and Adam R. Cocco explore the rapidly evolving legal issues surrounding NIL in their article, College Athlete NIL Activities and Institutional Agreements at a Crossroads: An Analysis of the Regulatory Landscape and 'Conflict Language' in State NIL Legislation. Finally, given the recent tragic mass shootings on college campuses, Jeffrey Curto, Andrew Goldsmith, John Miller, Michael S. Carroll, and Christina Martin present a timely piece on campus leaders' perceptions of being prepared for an active shooter situation during a college football game in Active Shooter Preparedness: Perceptions of NCAA Division I Athletic Directors and Campus Police Chiefs.
