This initiative was suggested by our board members, who thought that some experiments in crime and justice may not require full write-ups in a traditional journal format. Nonetheless, they may present important findings that should be visible to a wide audience. We decided to try this format with a short experimental report submitted by Ridgeway et al. which is published in this issue. Experimental reports will, as this paper, go through a normal review process. However, our instructions to reviewers notes that these are topics that should not require a detailed theoretical framework, and instead should focus on the experimental method and the findings of the study. Experimental research reports should be no longer than 12 typewritten pages in length. We are not committed to this format as of yet, and want to see what types of submissions we receive and how our readers respond to the contributions before making a final decision. But we encourage scholars to submit such research reports when appropriate. Our editorial board believes that there is a strong need for experimental research reports, arguing that there are many important experimental studies that are not published because they deal with topics that do not require long theoretical explanation or discussion, and the methods employed do not need to be D.
