handle is hein.journals/jcmks31 and id is 1 raw text is: Journal of Common Market Studies Volume 31, No. I March 1993 Editorial The end of 1992 not only saw the well-publicized, symbolic deadline for completion of the European Community's single market legislation, but it also signalled the end of the Journal's third decade since its foundation by Uwe Kitzinger. The 1993 volume, marking the start of the Journal's fourth decade, accordingly introduces some changes with a view to ensuring that it remain at the forefront of research on matters of international and European integration. The first change is that the Journal now includes a new section, 'European Agenda'. This is to be devoted to more specialized research notes, short articles designed to provoke scientific debate, and occasional briefings on policy developments. The second change is that the Journal will publish as a fifth issue an annual review of the European Community. This special issue, which is being edited by Neill Nugent (Manchester Metropolitan University), is designed to provide subscribers with an overview of major developments of the preceding calendar year. The review of 1992 is scheduled to be published for the autumn term of 1993. It will cover major developments in the institutions, in the 'internal' and 'external' policies of the EC, as well as in Member States' policies. There will also be a survey of economic trends, of the major official publications of the EC, together with a keynote article on an issue of major importance. As a result of these two new features, the size of the Journal will increase substantially. In late November 1992, to celebrate the Journal's 30th birthday, a special conference was held, 'Economic and Political Integration: The State of the Art'. This conference aimed to reflect on some of the key theoretical and conceptual issues of integration in the 1990s.
