Editorial Announcement

Form and Style for Submission of Manuscripts to
THE JOURNAL OF CONFLICT RESOLUTION

In order to standardize and facilitate handling
of manuscripts, authors are asked to observe the
following procedures in submitting materials to
THE JOURNAL OF CONFUCT REsOLUTION.
Heading
Place title at the top of first page. Place the
name of the author(s) below the title, and the
name of the author's institution, discipline, and
department below the name of the author. All
headings and subheadings should touch the left
margin; sub-subheadings should be slightly
indented.
Paper, Print, and Number of Copies
Only standard bond paper is acceptable for
the first copy of a manuscript. Onion skin may
be used for additional copies. Do not use cor-
rasable bond or tinted paper. Manuscripts must
be typed with a dark, black ribbon (electric type-
writer preferred) or clearly mimeographed. Do
not use ditto. A minimum of corrections may be
made in dark ink, but the typesetter should not
be expected to piece the manuscript together.
Submit three copies of the manuscript.
Spacing
  Double space everything, including footnotes
and references.
Citations
Use number in parentheses referring to the
References section at the end of the article.
For example, The model of cognitive structure
to be described is similar at various points to
other models (6, 8, 13). If only certain pages
within the reference are being cited, indicate
these within the parentheses. For instance,
Huntington also takes note of alliance formation
as an alternative to the arms race (3, pp. 64-
65) . Do not cite references by means of foot-
notes; footnotes and citations should be sepa-
rated.
Footnotes
  Footnotes should be numbered consecutively
throughout the article. Do not use printers'
symbols. The footnotes should be placed on the

page of the manuscript where reference to them
appears.
References
  Place the Reference section immediately
after the text. References should be alphabetized
and submitted in one of the following forms:
1. DEUTSCH, KARL W., et al. Political Com-
munity and the North Atlantic Area. Prince-
ton, N.J.: Princeton University Press, 1957.
2. FESTINGER, L. An Analysis of Compliant
Behavior, in M. SHERIF and M. 0. WIL-
SON (eds.). Group Relations at the Cross-
roads. New York: Harper & Bros., 1953.
3. NASH, J. F. Noncooperative Games, An-
   nals of Mathematics, 54 (1951), 286-95.
4. World War III Is Up to Russia, Legion Is
Told. Washington Post and Times Herald,
   July 25, 1958, B-2.
Do not list page numbers within books in the
reference section, but refer to them in the cita-
tion. This journal will be referred to as The
Journal of Conflict Resolution rather than Con-
flict Resolution only, as it has been in the past.
Tables and Figures
  Each table should be typed on a separate page;
these pages should be included in a separate sec-
tion at the end of the manuscript, following the
reference section. Show where they belong in
the text by inserting the following note to the
typesetter:

Plnae Table 1 about here

Use arabic numbers for numbering tables. Do
not use dividing lines in tables. Examples are
shown in Vol. I, p. 342, Vol. II, p. 301, Vol. III,
p. 106 and Vol. IV, p. 195.
Figures should be submitted in their final
form, for photographing. Use India ink and
place them on separate pages in a separate sec-
tion at the end of the manuscript following the
tables. Indicate where they belong in the text in
the same way as tables are indicated.
