handle is hein.journals/jccj3 and id is 1 raw text is: 5 EDITOR'S COMMENTS The purpose of the Journal of Contemporary Criminal Jus- tice is to promote inquiry, stimulate thought, present new con- cepts, focus on future trends, provide expanded publishing op- portunities and foster closer relationships between the criminal justice practitioner and the academician. This not-for-profit communications vehicle is designed to serve as a media representation of the broad-based criminal justice community. The Journal is managed by the Department of Criminal Justice, School of Applied Arts and Sciences, California State University, Long Beach, with a nationally- based editorial staff. The Journal is solely self-supported through subscription and donation. Commerical advertising is neither solicited nor accepted. Individuals, organizations and companies making in-kind contributions or making significant donations are listed in the Founders Circle, which is limited to one hundred (100) founders. This journal supports no political ideology, nor is it affiliated with any organization. The journal does not seek to influence the reader; it only seeks to inform. Political bias, should it occur, is the sole responsibility of the contributing authors. Journal objectivity and academic integrity is maintained by accepting manuscripts on face value and publishing upon the rigorous blind review of three independent judges. This journal is a collective venture, involving many people endeavoring to seriously promote the concepts of vocational and educational professionalism. Understandably, these two de- scriptors are not viewed as mutually exclusive terms. Building a communications bridge between criminal justice field profes- sionals and academia is viewed as a most desirable by-product. To this end, the editorial staff has a representative mix, and the manuscript review process includes the review by a field profes- sional working within the topical area or journal theme.
