Editor's Note
This is my first issue as editor of JoBEM, but most of the papers in this issue
were handled by my able predecessor, Professor Carolyn Lin of the
University of Connecticut. For the past three years, Carolyn has done an
outstanding job leading the journal. We are grateful to her for her hard work
and dedication.
I have an affinity to JoBEM as a cutting-edge research journal in broad-
casting and digital media. As a long-time editorial board member, I feel
strongly that I could contribute to the JoBEM tradition, mission and vision.
I bring a unique blend of relevant experience and expertise as well as
integrity to this critical position. As editor of JoBEM, I want to maintain
my predecessors' exemplary work, broaden the journal's international and
interdisciplinary reach, and position it as a premier outlet for all BEA
members and beyond.
I started handling manuscripts as Editor on July 1st, 2020, in the middle of
the Covid-19 pandemic. I am very grateful for the solid foundation, the
former JoBEM editors including Carolyn have built for the journal. She and
assistant Anna Young took time out of their busy schedules to help me
ensure a smooth transition. I was also fortunate to be assisted by Professor
Jaeho Cho of the University of California Davis, who I appointed as associate
editor this year, and Professor Travis Bell of the University of South Florida,
who has agreed to be our book review editor. The Missouri School of
Journalism also has gracefully provided support, so I have my doctoral
student, Yuanyi Chen, as my editorial assistant.
JoBEM is the flagship journal of BEA. It should represent the best research
of all BEA constituents. One of the reasons I love JoBEM is that it is
a specialized journal for broadcasting and electronic media, and we have
a strong BEA membership behind the journal. But, in the past, JoBEM's niche
attracted a volume of manuscripts manageable by a single editor. But,
because of the successful efforts of previous editors, the convergence of
communication technology, and the journal's stellar reputation, submissions
to JoBEM have expanded dramatically. I believe the addition of an associate
editor is necessary to provide authors and reviewers better service. Professor
Cho is an established scholar who has impressed with his review service and
his acute ability to pinpoint issues in manuscripts. Dr. Cho and I are working
closely together to handle manuscripts
