Irvine as editor-in-chief and wel- comes a new editorial team. Mrs. Irvine of the Department of Social Administration and Social Work, University of York, Eng- land, agreed at the international meetings of the ICSW, IASSW, and IFSW held in Helsinki in 1968 to translate into reality the new ambitions that all three organiza- tions cherished for the Journal. It was their desire that original rather than reprinted material on new or significant developments in social policy and social welfare, in social work education and social work practice would be made available to the international social welfare community. The hope was expressed that closer editorial attention to content and format would produce a more readable as well as a more interesting jour- ncl, thus extending its influence more widely throughout the world. Mrs. Irvine began her six year labour of love as editor-in-chief as the right person at the time to push towards the realization of the ambitions and hopes of the three spon- soring organizations. Her success has been evident in the range of subject matters covered and in the consistent quality of her creative editing which has brought out the best in the contributions of authors, many of whom have had to present their ideas in a language that is not their native tongue. She has selected articles, discovered contri- butors, and handled questions of geogra- phical spread with a keen understanding of the need for both quality and universality. To many of us, however, Mrs. Irvine will best be remembered for the extra ordinary clarity and sagacity of her editorial com- ments which, through descriptions of the arti- cles in each issue, informed and delighted journal readers. She touched in felicitous language and often with telling wit on many of the major issues confronting the social work profession and the social welfare field. In this farewell to Mrs. Irvine, the ICSW, IASSW, and IFSW pay tribute to her great talents as an editor and to the dedication which led her to continue the difficult task of organizing and editing the contents of each issue even after her retirement from the University of York which had provided sup- porting services. We shall miss her as editor- in-chief but hope that, in her new leisure, she will have more time to write and to share with readers of International Social Work the fruits of her distinguished career as a social work educator. The Editorial Committee now presents with pride and pleasure Dr. Werner Boehm of Rutgers University in the United States as the new editor-in-chief and Dr. Joseph Neipris of Hebrew University in Israel as the new book review editor for the Journal. Both are social work educators of distinc- tion in their own countries and both have had wide international experience. They work easily in many languages and are at home in the world of professional literature. Dr. Boehm will be recognized particularly as the Director and Coordinator of the 13 volume curriculum study published by the U.S. Council on Social Work Education in 1959. He is at present Director of the Center for International and Comparative Social Welfare as well as professor of Social Work at Rutgers University. We welcome Dr. Boehm and Dr. Neipris to their new responsibilities and look forward to continuing editorial excellence and a steady growth of Inter- national Social Work as a Journal which speaks eloquently and authoritatively for social work and social welfare all around the world.
