Sigrid Van der Auwera   is studying for a PhD at the University of Antwerp,
Belgium, on the protection of cultural property during and after armed conflict.
She previously studied archaeology and international relations, and undertook
fieldwork on cultural property.

Laura Zanotti is Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, Virginia
Polytechnic Institute and State University, USA. She was a Jean Monnet Fellow
at the European University Institute in San Domenico di Fiesole, Italy and also
served as a Visiting Professor in the School of International Relations, Trento Uni-
versity, Italy. Her research includes critical inquiries in international politics,
international organization, security, peacekeeping and democratization. She has
authored numerous  articles on UN peacekeeping as well as a book on peacekeep-
ing and democratization (forthcoming, Pennsylvania State University Press). She
previously worked  at the UN  as an administrator and  as a political adviser
in the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO). In 1999 she represented
the DPKO  in a 'Needs Assessment Mission' in Haiti. In 2001-03 she performed
the function of Deputy to the Head of the UN Liaison Office in Zagreb, Croatia.

Paul Higate is Senior Lecturer, Department of Politics, University of Bristol, UK.
He  has conducted research on sociological theorizing in the fields of security
studies and political science, with particular reference to the military and its
gendered culture, civil-military relations, military violence, peacekeeping and
theories of social space. He holds a major ESRC award in the Global Uncertain-
ties Programme for research on masculinities in private security companies and is
an adviser to the UN Working Group on the Regulation, Oversight and Monitor-
ing of Private Military Security Companies. He is co-author with Marsha Henry
of Insecure Spaces: Peacekeeping, Performance and Power in Haiti, Kosovo and
Liberia (Zed Books, 2009).

Marsha  Henry  is Lecturer in Gender, Development  and  Globalisation at the
Gender  Institute, London School of Economics and  Political Science. Marsha
was  previously at the University of Bristol, conducting research on the social
experience of living and working in peacekeeping missions. In addition to an
interest in gender and militarization she also focuses on qualitative method-
ologies. Her future research interests are to explore the experiences of female
peacekeepers from the Global South. Her publications include: Insecure Spaces:
Peacekeeping, Performance   and Power   in Haiti, Kosovo  and Liberia  (Zed
Books, 2009), co-authored  with Paul Higate; 'Gender, Security and Develop-
ment', Conflict, Security and Development, Vol.7, No.1, 2007, pp.61-84 and
a forthcoming  article on 'Peacexploitation: Female Peacekeepers  from  the
Global South', Globalizations (in 2010).
