We see - continuing rapid change in the airline industry as deregulation evolves; - post-Bakke challenges and questions in equal employment opportunity law; - new Securities and Exchange Commission involvement in corporate account- ing controls as a result of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act; developments in the public debate on the telecommunications industry as the Van Deerlin Committee works toward a new Communications Act; - possibility of new regulation on transportation of dangerous materials; - resolution of long-standing questions on energy legislation; - continuing debate - and, potentially, law - on nuclear safety standards; - and more developments in the ever-changing antitrust area. It is my aim that we will do a professional job of reporting on these issues for the benefit of us all. I will be happy to hear recommendations from any of you on how the Section can best serve your interests in doing this. For all members, I want to thank retiring Chairman William H. Coldiron for his leadership. Personally, I am grateful for the example he set for me. Thanks also are due the 1977-78 slate of outstanding officers. Ronald D. Jones did an excellent job of arranging stimulating programs. Howard C. Anderson, chairman of the Ad- ministrative Law Committee, was exceedingly active and is to be congratulated for his advancement before the House of Delegates of the Section's views regarding the procedural reforms suggested by the Committee on Law and the Economy. Howard J. Trienens, chairman of the Standing Committee, and Frederick A. Lavey, chair- man of the Publications Committee, did a masterful job on the Section Report. Sec- retary Francis X. Welch, Chairman of Meetings Jerrold Seymann, and Assistant Secretary and Vice-Chairman of Meetings N. Michael Grove kept the Section moving - always forward and always on time. I look forward to working with these experience-proven men this year and with Chairman-Elect David R. Toll. . . .There will be some changes in the lineup. I want to congratulate the new Council Members who were elected at the August annual meeting. They are listed below. Ronald D. Jones will serve as chairman of the Standing Committee for the year. Jerrold Seymann is our new budget officer. And N. Michael Grove is the new sec- retary and chairman of Meetings. William R. Brown (Baker & Botts, One Shell Plaza, . Z9th Floor, Houston, Tex. 77002) has agreed to serve as 1978-79 Program chairman. And in his behalf, I urge that you forward program ideas to him. The bet- ter your input, the better our program planning. The same point applies to myself and the other officers. Wayne E.
