Page 1 Vol. 17 No. 1 October 1, 1976 The Chairman's Statement Near the beginning of my tenure, the first thing I would like to do, on behalf of all members of our Section, is to express our sincere thanks and deep appreciation to all who have served us so faithfully and so well during the past year, including es- pecially our retiring Chairman, Harold Russell, for his inspiring leadership dur- ing the year, and for his most gracious hospitality during the annual meeting in Atlanta. Special thanks are also due to George Perrine, our wise and vigilant Delegate to the House of Delegates; to Dave Toll, the chairman of our Standing Committee, and Fred Lavey, chairman of our Publications Committee, who together with chair- men of the various reporting committees put out this past year another outstanding Annual Report; to Herschel Friday, chairman, and the other members of his Pro- gram Committee, who arranged such a splendid program in Atlanta; and to Francis Welch and Jerry Seymann, our perennial and capable Secretary and Meetings chair- man, respectively, who take such good care of us throughout the year. For the new Bar year, we are fortunate, indeed, to have Bill Coldiron as our Chair- man-Elect, and I am looking forward to his able assistance in the performance of the responsibilities of my office. We also congratulate and welcome aboard the four new Council members who names are listed within. Still looking forward to the ensuing year, Alan Buchmann will be the chairman of the Standing Committee, and you will be hearing from him directly or indirectly in the near future. Howard Trienens will be the chairman of our Program Committee for our next an- nual meeting in Chicago in August of next year. We are also asking Howard and the members of his committee to help us with the programs for our fall and spring meetings of the Council and committee chairmen. If, by chance, you have any sug- gestions for any of these meetings, please do not hestitate to let me have them, either directly, through Howard Trienens, or through your respective committee chairmen. In the interest. of a broader base of active participation by all mem- bers of the Section, you are also invited to submit any items you may have for the Newsletter to our edi- tor, Francis Welch, at his Washington address shown at the end of this edition. The policy of requring written reports by each com- mittee in advance of each fall and spring meeting seems to have worked very well during the past year and will be continued. Incidentally, the next fall meet- ing of the Council and committee chairmen is sched- uled for The Greenbrier, White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., from October 27th to October 31st, and arrange- ments should be made through Jerry Seymann if you plan to attend and have not already done so. William E.
