PRESIDENT' S MEMOWADUM.
I hope every member of IALL will examine the list of members a~ppear-
in  in this issue-of the Buletin'with care and will endea.or.to-sedure
additional members for the Association. .-There are obviously a number-of
oountries not now represented that'have libraries aid other i*nstitutiocs that
's1idi.d Tbe members and in practically all countries our membership shotid- be
increased.   I believe our existing membership provides an excellent nudleus
upon whic to build but with some effort on the p-art of all of us-we should
be able to double our membership during the next year or two.
I am very glad to be able to announce that the Board has voted to
qake.  the proceedings of the meeting at the Earvard Law School on June. 24-25,
.4.62 available to all members of the Association.-  They will be reproduced
in-some near print form.   The great difficulty of assembling the..complet.e
record has caused unavoidable delays but it is hoped..fhat the proceedings
will be available for distribution within two months.
Three- members of the IALL Board of Directors, namely'Dr. Breycha-
Vauthier, Dr. B.,Landheer and the undersigned, attended the dedication of the
Dag. Hammarskjold Library at thp United Nations in New York City on November
16, 1961' and participated in the symposinm which f0llowed on NoveIber 17th
and 18th.   In addition, .a number of IALL members from the northeastern part
of the United. States were also present.
The new Library, which completes the UN Headquarters gr'oup of struc-
tures, is most attractive and provides greatly needed'space for the rapidly
deveopiig library'-serlice that UN activities And the needs of the various
delegations iequire.

The, Role of the United .Nations Library and The United Nations Librar  and
the-kromotion of Research in .ts Fields of Speialization,.'* repec ively.
Altogether 35 countries were represented.  .I believd all agre'dd that it was
a fruitful gathering and that dedication of the Library to the late Secretary
General was a 'most appropriate way 'to give recognition t. Mr. Hammarskjold's
interest in the Library as an essential part of the United: 'ttions Organiz-
ation.
All those in attendance are greatly indebted to the members of the
UN Secretariat for their splendid hospitality.  'These included Mr. Andrew
.W. Cordier ; nder-'Secretary for General Assembly and Related Affai  s, . --
.Dr. .Josef Stummvoll, Director of the Library, and Mr'. Jbseph Groesbeck, Deputy
Director.
