Breycha-Vauthier, renownded Librarian of the United Nations Library at Geneva, and a member of our Board of Directors since the inception of the Association, has been appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, with official headquarters at the Austrian Embassy B.P. 3924, at Beirut, Lebanon. We have his promise that he wiL keep his interest in librarianship and in the affairs of our Association. As he stated in his own words, As Cardinal Tisserant once stated, he who has been a librarian remains a librarian all his life long. There is a precedent - but much more famous: my Austro-Belgian countryman, de Busbeoq, was for many years Ambassador to Turkey and preserved the peace at a very critical juncture of events (1554-1562); after he returned, laden with precious Eastern manuscripts, he became the Prefect of the Imperial Library at Vienna. I am afraid that the comparison has its limitations, and when I shall return to Geneva to-take up teaching.at our Library School again, it will be with excellent and precious memories-but not with all the treasures of the East! Anyhow, for the next few years, I'shall reside in Beirut and please do not forget me when you come that way. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you again some time and, of course, I shall remain a member of both the Swiss and Austrian Library associations, and also be happy to continue to assist both our International Association of Law Libraries and the International Federation of Library Associations. For 35 years, Dr. Breycha-Vauthier guided the affairs of one of the most outstanding libraries of modern times. I am sure that all our members join me in extending our sincere congratilations to him. His advice and cooperation will be of the 6ame importanc6 to us in the future as it was in the past. William B. Stern
