Loan Fund Adds $92,500 By Charles M. Hamann Vice-Dean Louis A. Toepfer announced this week the receipt of $75,000 from the Massa- chusetts Bar Association and $17,500 from the University, part of Harvard's share in National Defense Education Act funds, for the purpose of student loans. He said the two new funds promise to ease the strain on existing loan resources of the Law School, which in recent years have been in chronic undersupply. The Massachusetts Bar loan plan is essen- tially a loan guarantee program. Four ABA- accredited law schools in Massachusetts - Harvard, Boston College, Boston University and Suffolk - are the beneficiaries. State banks - in the case of the Law School, the Dem Toopfer Harvard Trust Company -will supply the actual loan funds. What the Bar Association has provided is $25,000 for the purpose of paying off the debts of defaulting loan fund (Continued on page 6) Job Placement Lags By Neil L. Chayet Hiring of third year students seems to be going slower than last year, Placement Direc- tor Eleanor R. Appel said this week. She said this is merely a personal impres- sion based upon her observations of the hiring process so far this year. But she has the feeling that students at any given level of ability are being hired somewhat later than students of similar ability were last year.
