The unity of the family patrimony in the hands of a few or, better still, of only one - legitimate son, male and preferably firstborn - capable of perpetuating the name of the family and keeping the substances intact from generation to generation emerges in all clarity from the work of the first Ambrosian Master of the History of Italian Law - destined to the central role of 'imprinting' in the historiographical literature of both the early and late twentieth centuries - as the goal that this family model aspired to.
