COMMENTARIES ON THE FAMILY LAW EDUCATION REFORM PROJECT Our reader commentary section for this issue consists of two reflections that continue the dialogue on the Family Law Education Reform Project (FLER) whose report with com- mentary was published in the October 2006 issue. Forrest Mosten describes the positive impact that he thinks FLER will have on the practicing family law bar. Greg Lampe, FLER's Curriculum Consultant and Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, University of Wisconsin Colleges, describes the challenges that law faculty face in imple- menting FLER and how they might be overcome. We hope that readers will continue to join in the discussion on how family law education can reflect what occurs in family law practice. PERSPECTIVES IN FAMILY LAW AND SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH FCR's Associate Editor, Janet Johnston, has assembled an outstanding group of authors to address the problem of how the legal system uses social science empirical data to set family law policy and decide individual cases. This is a subject particularly prone to mis- understanding and miscommunication and is obviously of great importance for our inter- disciplinary journal. The articles in this issue originated at a well-received plenary session of the June 2005 AFCC Conference in Seattle which Jan organized. As is traditional, I leave it to Jan's editorial introduction to present the contributing authors and the significance of their work. It suffices to note that they are well-known experts in law and social science and insightful writers and thinkers, and FCR is grateful for their contributions. We hope that the insights they present will begin a dialogue between communities with different vocabularies and outlooks and welcome responses and commentary. MODEL STANDARDS OF PRACTICE FOR CHILD CUSTODY EVALUATIONS In May 2006 the AFCC Board approved Model Standards ofPractice for Child Custody Evaluations, the culmination of an extraordinary multiyear effort ably led by Task FAMILY COURT REVIEW, Vol. 45 No. 1, January 2007 1-4 c 2007 Association of Family and Conciliation Courts
