EDITORIAL

Our review now has a new name-Family and Concili-
ation Courts Review. The Association's Board of Directors
believes this name more accurately reflects the AFCC's mem-
bership and our associations's goal.
With this name change come some modifications in the
journal itself. Theme issues will cover important topics. Most
of the December, 1989, issue will be devoted to joint custody,
incorporating three articles processed through the Meyer Elkin
Essay Contest. Other papers include a significant article by
Justice Sylvia Cartwright on the Maori conceptualization of
family. The June, 1990, issue will be primarily devoted to
international articles from China, Denmark, England, Israel,
West Germany and other countries. We are becoming an urban
village, bound together by an increasing realization of the
fragility of our planet and our need to cooperate on all levels of
human endeavor. No longer can we afford a purely North
American ethnocentrism. We have too much to learn from
each other.

Other themes related to the family in future reviews are
domestic violence, feminist concerns, support/economic is-
sues and fundamental questions of equity and social responsi-
bility.
The Review will continue to publish path-finding articles,
as presented in this issue, such as Richard Gardner's article on
child custody evaluation and Joan Kelly's and Robert Emory's
review of Judy Wallerstein's new book, Second Chances.
Other changes contemplated at the meeting of the Editorial
Board in Chicago were to explore offers by publishing houses
who are interested in publishing our journal. Your editors are
exploring the possibilities of such a change.
We enter the decade of the 1990s like an old wine in a new
bottle-the task is to preserve the quality of the old and incor-
porate the changes required by new challenges. Our goal is to
make our journal the most relevant publication in the field, not
out of personal pride, but out of recognition of the importance
of what you-our readers--do.
