Since that time this Section has shown great prog- ress, both in membership and programs which have been of great interest to the organized bar. Outstanding lawyers and judges throughout the United States have devoted their time and talents to alerting the legal profession and the general public to the importance of family law. The research of its com- mittees has resulted in progressive legislation and the drafting of uniform laws in this field. Roger Alton Pfaff, Chairman OFFICERS ELECTED IN MIAMI One of the important bits of business at the Section meeting in Miami in August was the election of officers and new council members. Here they are: Chairman, Judge Roger A. Pfaff, Los Angeles, Calif.; Chairman-Elect, Rev. Robert F. Drinan, Brighton, Mass.; Vice-Chairman, Jacob T. Zuker- man, New York, New York; Secretary, Neva B. Talley, Little Rock, Arkansas; Council-4 year terms-Felix Infausto, Albany, New York and James P. Hatt, Jr., Roanoke, Va. AT OUR AUGUST COUNCIL MEETING The Paternity Committee was charged with studying the problem of abortions and with considering a pro- posed model law prepared by the American Law Insti- tute. Our Research Committee and the Committee on Inter- professional Liaison have been providing consultation to the American Association of Marriage Counsellors in connection with proposed legislation regulating the practice of marriage counselling. These committees will also be working jointly on a proposed project to study techniques employed by lawyers in making re- ferrals to marriage and/or family counsellors. Inci- dentally, Judge Bowles would like the names of lawyers who are interested in interprofessional co- operation of the bar in specific fields. We learned that our Adoption Committee has been discussing the Uniform Adoption Act with the National Conference of Uniform Law Commissioners and working with Frederick O'Connell of Augusta, Maine, who is STABILIZE AND PRESERVE FAMILY LIFE the Conference's chairman on Adoptions. (Since our meeting a subcommittee consisting of Harold Katz, chairman, Richard B. Barker, vice-chairman, Jerome Thier, Secretary and Edward Terner has met with a subcommittee of the Council of State Directors of Pro- grams for Children and Youth to discuss the same sub- ject.) A statement on Lawyer-Social Worker Relation- ships in the Family Court Intake Process was pre- sented by the National Conference of Lawyers and Social Workers. This was adopted in principle, subject to re-editing. Our Committee on Juvenile Law and Procedures is preparing a questionnaire to elicit data as to police procedures in juvenile arrests. They have been assured the cooperation of the National Conference of Juvenile Court Judges. On recommendation of Professor John Bradway, it was decided to establish closer contact with Counsel to the Department of Health, Education and Welfare in an effort to involve our Section in any projects that they may be considering in the area of family law.
