The White House Statement
Following is the text of the White
House statement :
The President has upon the ree-
ommendation   of the   Attorney
General appointed Mr. George Z.
Medalie as United States District
Attorney for the Southern Dis-
trict of New York. Mr. Medalie
is endorsed by leading members of
the bar; Hon. Charks D. Hilles.
Republican National Connittee-
man; Hon. W. Kingsland Macy.
Republican State Chairman, and
Hon. Ruth    Pratt, Republican
State Committeewoman.
Although Keyes Winter, leader of
the Fifteenth Assembly District, was
the original organization choice for the
appointment, Mr. Hilles. Mr. Macy
and Mr. Koenig always hre taken the
view that the President, if he did not
wish to appoint Mr. Winter, always
had the right to name another candi-
date who would be acceptable to the
orgamzation.

The success of the organization

ment of a candidate satisfactory to
